What this free check can tell you
The website combines statistical writing signals with optional model signals. Its overall score is an indicator for review, not a verified probability of AI authorship. Highlighted passages are suggestions to inspect; they are not passages we know Turnitin will flag.
Illustrative example: a score of 70 here does not mean 70% of your essay was generated, copied or would be highlighted by Turnitin. This is an explanation of score interpretation, not a result from a test essay.
Free checks accept up to 1,000 words. Signed-in free accounts have three checks. Longer documents require a subscription. Text is sent to our server for processing.
How to get an official Turnitin AI Writing Report
Ask your instructor or institution whether AI writing detection is enabled and how its report is shared. Access depends on the institution’s license and settings. Submitting through a learning platform does not by itself establish that AI detection is active.
An independent checker cannot recreate that access. Keep the distinction between an AI writing indicator and a similarity report: similarity concerns matching text, while AI detection concerns patterns associated with generated writing.

What the Turnitin percentage means
Turnitin describes its percentage as the share of qualifying prose identified as likely AI-generated or subsequently modified with AI tools. That is different from Humanizer AI’s combined indicator.
For new reports, Turnitin hides numeric results above 0% and below 20%, displaying an asterisk because false positives are more likely in that range. Its report requires at least 300 words of long-form prose. Check the current language, file and length requirements before expecting a report.

What to do about a possible false positive
Keep your writing evidence
Save source notes, outlines and version history. These show how the draft developed more directly than another detector score.
Read the actual report
Ask which passages were highlighted and what policy applies. Check whether the concern is AI use, copied text or missing citations.
Discuss the work
Explain your argument and writing process. If you used permitted assistance, disclose it as required. Review facts and citations before making edits.
Human and generated text can both be misclassified. A detector result alone is insufficient to establish misconduct. Do not add invented anecdotes or remove correct citations to change a score.
